Our most viewed blog post is titled ‘Dear Salon Guest,’ a post I wrote as a client, for the client perspective on digesting what was four years ago, an entirely new category in the hair industry, OLAPLEX, and bond-building. At the time it was written, OLAPLEX No.1, No.2, and No.3 were the only OLAPLEX products on the market. Today, five products later, OLAPLEX No.4, No.5, No.6, No.7, and the new No.0––an update for the clients who love to educate themselves is long overdue.
With a nod to Dear Salon Guest, a here’s an intro (or refresher for many), on what OLAPLEX does in a professional salon:
Olaplex is your hairdresser’s insurance policy. By adding Olaplex No.1 into your chemical service, they are mitigating the damage done during the process. This is something that OLAPLEX revolutionized in the hair industry! No.2 is the second professional in-salon step. No.2 is a treatment to show your hair some much-needed love, just like the No.1 does, except it doesn’t have chemicals such as lightener working against it. It’s crucial to let the No.2 sit in the hair in between services for a minimum of 10 minutes to get the full benefit of the treatment– your hair will thank you!
It’s important to touch on expectations with color corrections. Your colorist should always use good judgment as they know your hair best and what it can take in one sitting. You may be able to pull off dark brunette hair to platinum in a day and have your hair feeling better than ever, and that is incredible! We are so amazed each time we see it. However, not every one’s hair can take that transformation in one salon visit, even with OLAPLEX. So, if it takes a few salon visits to get to your desired color carefully, we recommend coming back into the salon for Stand Alone treatments in between services to make sure your hair is stronger and healthier than ever to prepare for your transformation!
Is it making sense so far? Consider No.1 the tool that fights damage during the chemical service and No.2 the tool to revive and rebuild the bonds in your hair once the chemical service is complete or in between services to allow for more processes in a shorter time frame. OLAPLEX No.3 Hair Perfector is the take-home OLAPLEX treatment, similar to No.2 but less potent, as No.2 is reserved for professionals only. No.3 is what you use at home once a week or more to rebuild bonds in the hair. When OLAPLEX first launched, No.3 was the only take-home product. In the past couple of years, OLAPLEX has launched some fantastic new products for salon and at-home use. Each of these products contain OLAPLEX’s patented chemistry.
Let’s start with No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and No.5 Bond Maintenance conditioner. To remind you, any OLAPLEX product will have OLAPLEX’s patented chemistry to rebuild broken disulfide bonds in the hair. That means, with the use of any OLAPLEX product, you will restore hair. No.1, No.2, and No.3 only rebuild hair; they do nothing else. Many people confuse the No.2 or No.3 for a conditioner. It’s essential to keep in mind; they are not. They do not condition or moisturize because they are bond builders, not conditioners. This is why we’re so excited about the shampoo and conditioner. Not only are you washing your hair as you normally would, now with OLAPLEX No.4 and No.5, but you’re also rebuilding bonds in the hair while you do so. More than that, they each provide intense moisture to the hair! This is the easiest way to ensure you’re rebuilding bonds and moisturizing every time you wash your hair.
The bond building and moisture don’t stop there! OLAPLEX’s styling products No.6 Bond Smoother and No.7 Bonding Oil given your hair more reason to shine, and they do so effortlessly. No.6 is a leave-in styling cream and that rebuilds bonds, conditions, and omits frizz for up to 72 hours! Apply to damp hair and work the product through. A little goes a long way! No.7 is a bond-building oil that adds intense shine, moisture, reduces frizz, and protects the hair from heat up to 450 degrees.
The newest addition to the OLAPLEX take-home line is No.0. No.0 is a primer designed to amplify the benefits of OLAPLEX No.3. It’s inspired by salons, proven by science, and created to elevate your at-home bond-building experience. Consider it similar to the Stand Alone, but less potent, designed for home use. This treatment dramatically improves the hair in between salon visits. The No.0 jump starts repair, deep within the hair strand, priming it for a luxurious intensive OLAPLEX treatment paired with No.3
As with all OLAPLEX products, OLAPLEX is safe to use on any hair type or color. Any hair type, including straight, curly, virgin, or damaged, can benefit from being healthier.
